| One perfect spring day, I was playing with r.jo in her backyard. I was jumping high on the trampoline while she was trying to memorize SAT words. The weather was beautiful, but it started to get so hot, the trampoline felt like it was burning. As we were going inside to cool off, we saw a peculiar thing.
On her deck is this net where you can practice your golf swing. It's pretty tall, but not very deep. What we saw was this butterfly flying around frantically and continuously bumping and crashing into the net, even though there was this huge wide opening for the butterfly to fly away through if only it turned around.
We tried shaking the net, in hopes to make it fly out, either from fear or new perspective. But the butterfly did not understand what was going on and kept flying into the wall of the net.
We then tried using our sandals to guide the butterfly out gently, but our efforts just scared the butterfly even more and continued to crash into the net. It just kept trying to get out its own way, even though it was clearly not working.
I think we people are like the butterfly. We sometimes get into sticky situations and we think we know the way out. When God starts shaking our world, we don't understand his purpose and keep going our own way. When God sends guides or signs to the right way, we cannot see those things for what they truly are, we do not follow, and keep trying to escape by going in the wrong direction. We can't see that these things we think are scary, harmful, or hurtful are actually helpful and good for us.
All the butterfly had to do was calm down, look carefully, and see the right way.
Because sometimes, scary things are actually pleasant helpful things in disguise.
